After a dreary, rainy lead-in, can you believe we’ve once again found ourselves in sunny June? That means Pride Month is upon us! In no particular order, here are my top ten picks for performances that will get you into the gay old spirit of June.

Prosperous Fools (Theatre for a New Audience) — Queer icon Taylor Mac’s Prosperous Fools, a loose adaptation of Moliere’s Le Bourgeois gentilhomme, promises to be a riotous good time — a comedy of manners with real bite. The inimitable Mac also stars.

Prince Faggot (Soho Rep / Playwrights Horizons) — Doubling down on the satire, Jordan Tannahill’s fascinating new play Prince Faggot examines how societal forces have shaped the lives of queer, trans-gender, and nonbinary performers.

My Son’s a Queer (But What Can You Do) (New York City Center) — After talk of Broadway, Rob Madge’s hit West End solo show about the nurturing and inspiring bond between parents and queer children finally arrives New York for a limited time only.

Pansy Craze (Audible Theater) — Continuing their roll, the folks over at Audible Theater are celebrating Pride weekend this year with The Pansy Craze, a queer variety show hosted by Mason Alexander Park that’s sure to be as outrageous as it is educational.

Justin Vivian Bond: Well, Well, Well (Joe’s Pub) — After Viv’s sold out concerts Oh, Well and Well, Well, downtown nightlife icon Justin Vivian Bond completes v’s trilogy of reckoning vis-à-vis the songs of lesbian, trans, and nonbinary singer songwriters.

Seth Sikes & Friends (54 Below) — Saluting gay icon Judy Garland’s 103rd birthday is charismatic, ever-young cabaret star Seth Sykes, who is joined by the legendary Charles Busch, Diana‘s Jeanna de Waal, big-voiced Alysha Umpires, the suave Jon-Michael Reese, and frequent collaborator Nicolas King.

Medea of the Laundromat (La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club) — The seminal downtown play Medea of the Laundromat by H.M. Koutoukas makes a rare return, starring Tony-nominee John-Andrew Morrison (A Strange Loop) in the title role.

Woolf Works (American Ballet Theatre) — On a more serious note, American Ballet Theatre revives its underrated production of Woolf Works, Wayne McGregor’s somber and poetic dance adaptation of three of queer literary icon Virginia Woolf’s novels.

Titanique (Daryl Roth Theatre) — Shuttering on a high note this Pride Month is Titanique, Tye Blue, Marla Mindelle, and Constantine Rousouli’s unstoppably enjoyable Celine Dion jukebox musical that’s been campily adapted from James Cameron’s Titanic.

Oh, Mary! (Lyceum Theatre) — Last but not least, is the motherload, Cole Escola’s unlikely smash hit Oh, Mary!, which robustly continues on at Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre. For its lead-up to the Tonys — and I’d like to think for Pride Month — Escola and the rest of the original cast have returned to the production.
