THE HANGOVER REPORT – Daniel Sloss’s hilarious, bloody brilliant X stealthily and passionately addresses the #MeToo movement

This afternoon at the SoHo Playhouse, I caught the final performance of X, provocative Scottish stand-up comedian Daniel Sloss’s latest show (his tenth!). I hadn’t seen this up-and-coming comic before, and it surely won’t be my last. I thought Mr. Sloss was bloody brilliant.

Upon first glance, Mr. Sloss comes across as a caricature of a 28-year-old white bachelor. That is, brash, obnoxiously immature, and hopelessly ignorant. But throughout his absolutely hilarious show – which has been touring the globe to rave reviews – he continually subverts expectations, turning his crassly juvenile antics into profoundly insightful and often moving personal revelations.

I don’t want to spoil the show too much for you, but I do want to mention that the show ultimately addresses the divisive #MeToo movement, which Mr. Sloss takes on with surprising emotional heft. His passionate and transparent plea completely disarmed me. Underneath his guise of impenetrable masculinity and risqué humor is a whip-smart young man that’s completely unafraid to tackle current issues head on.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
